Production Blog: Everything we needed!

Image
Hi Camination, welcome back to another blog!! In this blog, I will be explaining all the preparations and props we had to gather for our film.  To begin with, for our props, we used things that we already owned. For example, Katherine brought a box of crayons from her house, which we used for the drawing scenes of the film. Since she brought a brand new box of crayons we wanted them to seem as if they were used. So, we broke some into smaller pieces and ripped some of the paper wrappings to make them look used.  For our costumes, we wanted them to be simple and casual. This is because the setting of our movie is inside a home, meaning there is no need for any extravagant costumes. We wanted the audience to feel like the characters were cozy and comfortable. For Santiago, we wanted him to wear a pair of shorts with a t-shirt to emphasize the comfortability of the film.  The idea for our film was that all of it was during the night time however, we recorded some of the scenes during the

Production Blog: Music choice

Hi camination!! Welcome back to my blog! Katherine and I found the soundtrack to our final film project today. It seems to me to be a wonderful fit for the thriller genre. For our song, we looked for royalty-free music on YouTube. "Creepy, horror, and haunted" was what we were searching for in music. We selected a soundtrack from a selection of excellent music that would enhance the mood of the movie. To save time, we chose music that isn't protected by copyright rather than music that is. Without having to bother with sending an email request, we wanted to be able to choose the music we wanted. We chose the YouTube song "It's in the Fog" by @DarrenCurtisMusic, which is copyright-free. I believe that this song would work the best for our situation out of all the ones we looked at on YouTube. The idea is to have just background noises, like television, drawing, and kitchen noises, throughout the first part of the movie. The opening theme of this song will be

Hi guys! Welcome back to my blog!! Today will mark the last modifications to our movie and the beginning of our music. I apologize for continually delaying the completion of this task; obtaining permission for particular soundtracks can be somewhat of an issue. We reviewed our movie as a whole today, making decisions about where to include certain sound effects, whether to reshoot, and whether to add special effects altogether. We also selected where the sound effects should be placed and concluded that a few of our long and close-up shots needed to be redone. We chose to retake the shots that did not include Santiago, the young boy we were babysitting.  This is due to the fact that we do not always have the privilege of seeing him. However, we concluded that every shot, even his, was good. The kitchen was where we generally needed more reshoots. In particular, a couple of close-ups of Katherine and I baking and a long shot of us in the kitchen. Even though it might seem tedious to ta

Hi, Camination. Welcome back to my blog!! I completed my editing with Katherine today, but there is still more to be done. We had completed the ordering and assembly of the clips before today. We ensured that the clips were sufficiently cut to blend into one another. We then inserted the necessary titles after that. The size of each title that was given to a clip had to vary based on what was seen in the frame. But in every clip, the font used was the same. At the conclusion of our previous blog, we said that we were searching for our soundtrack. We are having some difficulty obtaining the ideal sounds for it, so we have decided to postpone it for a little while longer. We also determined that the addition of music might wait because we are experiencing trouble muting some of the clips. Today, we focused our editing efforts on altering the filters to enhance specific shots.  There are often similar looks to key scenes in thriller films. The photos that are the scariest and most suspens

Hi camination, welcome back to my blog! Katherine and I have continued the editing process since we last updated you.  We left off by saying that there were still some technical concerns to be resolved and that the soundtrack and titles needed to be edited. We entered our titles and corrected any mistakes we discovered in the shots that were clipped together today while editing. In our opinion, we should save the soundtrack for last so that we have more time to select the ideal music and sounds for each scene of the movie. It only needed to be put together in the end and we decided where the titles should go because we had already chosen our fonts and the order in which they would appear. We could choose where to place our titles in photos that were taken from a long shot. Normally, we would position the titles in a corner of these specific clips, larger in size and using the same font. We have to be careful to position the titles in close-up photos so as not to block any crucial eleme

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! In this blog I will be talking about my editing process so far. We just finished filming a few days ago so our editing process has just begun.  We began by rewatching all of the clips and deciding which ones made the Final Cut or not. We had over 70 clips to rewatch, so this took a long time. But we ended up choosing the ones we liked the most and fit together the best. After this we had to crop the clips and put them in order of the scenes. We made sure that the audio was clear and that at the end of putting all the clips together, we fit the time frame.  For our editing process, we are going to be using CapCut. In the previous projects, we have both used this app, so we are both comfortable using the tools in it.  I am in charge of putting some of the labels and making sure the clips are cropped correctly. Katherine is in charge of making sure the videos seamlessly transition into one another and adding the rest of the labels. This editing process h

Welcome back to my blog camination!! This blog is a continuation of me and Katherine's filming process. On February 14th, 2024 we recorded all the scenes in which Santiago was part of since it was the only day we could see him. Five days later we got together again to record all of the missing scenes.  We wanted to start with the scenes of the ingredients so we could actually end up making a cake. For this we only had one shot so we made sure everything went perfectly. It was kind of a nerve wracking moment because we couldn't afford to mess up since we only had one cake mix. However, we managed to get every shot perfectly and enjoyed the process of mixing the ingredients.  After this we had to shoot the scenes of us at the kitchen together and the scenes of only the two of us. Once again my sister helped us out with these scenes since none of us were behind the camera.  Some of the scenes took us longer than expected because we kept laughing. We really had to focus to get our

Welcome back Camination!! In this blog I will be updating you guys on the filming of me and Katherine's short film.  We have filmed for two days overall but today I will only be talking about the first day. We began filming February 14, 2024 after school. On this day we wanted to shoot all the scenes that Santiago was in since that was the only day we could see him.  We started by setting up everything he would use in the scenes (markers and paper.) We had to explain to him that all he had to do was draw on the blank piece of paper. It took us a few tries for him to actually draw something that wasn't just scribbles so we ended up helping him. We drew multiple different things that were simple doodles of things like rainbows, cars, trees, and animals.  For Santiago to know what to do we had my mom help explain to him since he is just a toddler. Although we had to redo many shots because he would get easily distracted. We were able to get some pretty good shots that we will be u
